COLLEGE COUNSELING

College Counselor: Mrs. Joan Robards

Tuscaloosa Academy's College Counseling office provides an informative and nurturing environment for the transition from high school to college.

College Timeline

Freshman Year:

Meet with the College Counselor for an introduction to the importance of the high school transcript.

Take the PLAN Test (Pre ACT - American College Test). This test is administered at TA.

Naviance - Students will set goals and chart a path to college admittance.

Sophomore Year:

Meet with the College Counselor for an introduction to the components of the college admission process.

Take the PSAT - Preliminary Scholastic Assessment Test. This is a practice round for the SAT1 which qualifies students for the National Merit Scholarship competition.

Take the PLAN (Pre ACT - American College Test). Both the PSAT and the PLAN are administered at TA.

Plan to attend The Birmingham Area NACAC College Fair at the BJCC.

Plan to attend the TA College Tour.

Naviance - Career Planner and College Planner.

Take a course or class to prepare for the ACT and / or SAT (Naviance Software has a program).

Junior Year:

Meet with the College Counselor.

Take the PSAT - Preliminary Scholastic Assessment Test. This is a practice round for the SAT1 which qualifies students for the National Merit Scholarship competition.

Take the PLAN (Pre American College Test (ACT)). Both the PSAT and the PLAN are administered at TA.

Naviance - Career Planner, College Planner & Family Connection - Use Naviance software to practice for your ACT/SAT testing.

Student athletes must register with the NCAA for Division I and Division II Schools.

Consider taking SAT II subject tests.

Senior Year:

Meet with the college counselor to discuss college lists, Early Decision and Early Action, and regular admission.

Consider attending the TA College Tour.

Attend visiting college representatives' information sessions.

Speak with individuals writing letters of recommendation.

Sign transcript release forms for each college to which you apply.

Register to take the ACT, SAT I and SAT II if you plan to take these tests.

Fill out the FAFSA form - Free Application for Federal Student Aid.

Naviance - update information for admission packets.
