Second Grade Animal Projects

Mrs. Atkins’ second grade class recently completed a unit on animals. As part of their projects, students chose an animal they liked and conducted extensive research on the animal, it’s classification, habitat, predators, and other related interesting facts.
Students were then required to display their findings; much like a science project. They were not only graded on their on their display board presentation but also their presentation and public speaking skills.
“On so many levels this is an in-depth project. Many people are amazed that second grade students can put something like this together. I say, this is TA and these students are quite capable,” says second grade teacher, Tammy Atkins.  She adds, “my students learn research skills, organization skills, presentation skills, and they are allowed to be creative. They are well-prepared for the next grade and these are crucial skills they will use for the rest of their lives,” adds Mrs. Atkins.
