The Tuscaloosa Academy Preschool and Lower School Art Program follows a month-to-month curriculum, developing interactions with student’s creativity, expression and appreciation for art while enhancing their technical and basic art skills. The class provides hands-on experience with art projects and one-on-one help. Art classes at the preschool level introduce elements of art to the students while also introducing them to current and past artists and art history. A new artist is introduced and discussed every month in detail. The classes are designed to provide awareness for the history of the art and why it is important. The classes for Lower School also have an artist of the month. For Lower School students more techniques are taught, and the seven elements of art are the focus: shape, line, form, perspective, color, value and texture. Lower School art is taught by Mrs. Jessie Harbin. Mrs. Harbin is a TA Alum and an alum of the University of Alabama and The University of West Alabama.
​She was appointed at TA in 2017 and has been teaching as the preschool, lower school and middle school art teacher. In her classes, she follows a month-to-month curriculum, developing interactions with student’s creativity, expression and appreciation for art while enhancing their technical and basic art skills.
