The Lower School at Tuscaloosa Academy is a vibrant, welcoming place where children begin their academic journey—from Preschool at age three through 4th grade. Here, we believe that every child is unique and deserves a joyful, stimulating environment where they can grow academically, socially, emotionally, and physically.
Our teachers create classrooms that are both safe and inspiring—spaces where children feel encouraged to share their ideas, take risks, and discover their potential. Each day is filled with a balance of core subjects—reading, math, science, and social studies—as well as a rich variety of enrichment classes in Foreign Language, PE, Art, Technology, Music, and Library.
Learning extends far beyond the classroom. Students take part in field trips, theater performances, and hands-on experiences that bring lessons to life and create lasting memories. Character development is woven into every aspect of Lower School life—whether in the classroom, on the athletic field, or during our special Knightlife classes. Children also grow in confidence through leadership opportunities in our Student Government Association, and even our youngest learners experience the joy of public speaking—whether it’s performing on stage as preschoolers or presenting speeches during SGA elections.
Our school community thrives on connection. Students build friendships across grade levels through activities such as Senior/Kindergarten buddies, Roundtables with Grades 1–4 in their monthly Awesome Activities, and the annual Young Players theater production (Grades 1–6). These opportunities foster a sense of belonging and teach children the importance of learning with—and from—one another.
Through these experiences, our Lower School students develop independence, confidence, and a spirit of curiosity. They learn to solve problems creatively, collaborate with others, and grow into the kind of leaders our world needs for the future.
We invite you to experience the warmth of our Lower School for yourself. Please email me—I’d love to share more with you. Our Director of Admissions and Enrollment will be happy to arrange a campus tour so you can see firsthand the joyful community and engaging opportunities waiting for your child at Tuscaloosa Academy.
